Route de la Carpe Frite

A tasty journey through the Sundgau

The Sundgau, a small region between the Rhine, Vosges and Jura, is home to a typical gastronomic speciality: the carpe frite, which has given its name to a tourist route. A gourmet and seductive escapade in the south of Alsace will allow you to discover this regional and convivial dish that you can eat with your fingers! Served with a salad, steamed potatoes or Chips, always with lemon and mayonnaise, fried carp can be enjoyed in the restaurants of Sundgau. From Illfurth to Lucelle and from Montreux-Jeune to Rosenau, the region abounds with ponds between the valleys of the Ill and Larque rivers, from which this local product originates. The Sundgau, Routes de la Carpe Frite is part of the Sites remarquables du Goût network, recognised for showcasing France's culinary heritage. The arrival of spring is celebrated in Sundgau with the Les Carpailles event, which, over the two weeks prior to the Pâques, sees participating restaurants serving menus made up entirely of carp.
