Venturing from north to south in Alsace

There are so many ways to get to and from Alsace for your holiday

On the train

Whether Alsace is your destination or you're just passing through, there are a number of major lines with direct or connecting services to get you to Alsace.

We'll give you a few examples:

  • Strasbourg is 1h50 from Paris, 1h30 from Luxembourg or even 3h from Lille
  • Colmar is à 3h50 from Genève, 6h from Rennes but also 5h40 from Bordeaux and Nantes
  • Mulhouse is à 2h50 from Lyon and Paris, 4h40 from Marseille and à barely more than Montpellier (4h50 from Montpellier).

There are more than 150 stations are r&eute;parties throughout Alsace to travel from north to south of Alsace during your séjour.

 

In the car

The A4 motorway links Paris à Strasbourg, while the A35 motorway crosses Alsace from north to south, from Lauterbourg à Saint-Louis.

 

On the bus

Several connections to Alsace are operated by coach companies.

Strasbourg, Mulhouse, Colmar, Obernai, Saverne and Bâle/Mulhouse/Fribourg airport are the main destinations served.

 

À vélo

Alsace boasts nearly 2,500km of cycle paths, plenty to delight both amateur and experienced vélo enthusiasts! Several of our hostels are located close to cycle paths.

Three Eurovélos, these major cycle route itineraries cross Alsace.

  • The Véloroute Rhin - Eurovélo 15
  • La Via Roma - Eurovélo 5

 

À foot

Whether you're a seasoned hiker or a keen walker, Alsace has something for everyone. With more than 20,000 kilometres of trails marked by the Club Vosgien, you won't want to choose the wrong route for your next hike!

Some of the most legendary hiking routes include:

The GR5, which crosses Alsace from Wissembourg to Belfort, and the GR7, which leads from the Ballon d'Alsace towards the Pyrenees.

The sentier des roches is one of the most frequented in the Vosges Massif.

Tour the Vosges Massif from north to south with the Traversée du Massif des Vosges. This 430-kilometre trail is divided into 19 stages, which can be explored in their entirety or in sections. With a departure from Wissembourg to Belfort, travel through the Vosges du Nord and Ballons d'Alsace Regional Nature Parks.

The chemin des châteaux forts is another itinerary allowing you to discover Alsace in a different way! hike, contemplate 80 châteaux, a 450-kilometre long itinerary with nearly twenty stops.

 

Flying

L’Alsace has 2 major international airports:

  • L’EuroAirport Bâle-Mulhouse-Fribourg
    A shuttle bus between the airport and Saint-Louis station, the journey taking around ten minutes, will then take you on a direct line to Mulhouse, Colmar, Sélestat or even Strasbourg by TER.
  • L'aéroport de Strasbourg, à Entzheim
    Count 8 minutes by train from Strasbourg to access à l'aéroport.

Close to the border with France, the Baden Airpark Airport located in Germany allows you to reach Alsace from many destinations.

 

Boating

Go boating in Alsace? Why not! Three canals allow you to reach Alsace:

  • The Marne to Rhine canal
  • The canal from the Rhône to the Rhine
  • The Saar Canal

 

Tourist shuttles

Several tourist shuttles provide access to many tourist sites during the summer and winter seasons. Don't forget to ask at the tourist offices to plan your trip as well as possible.

The navette des Crêtes, 9 coach lines that allow you to reach and explore the Ballons des Vosges Natural Park:

  • From Colmar to the Lac Blanc,
  • From Munster to Col de la Schlucht à Gérardmer
  • From Mulhouse to Markstein,
  • From Thann to the Grand Ballon
  • From the summit of the Grand Ballon to Lac Blanc.

The Crêtes shuttle runs from 1 July to 31 August and every weekend from September to 1 October inclusive. Take a ride through the Vosges valleys and peaks, enjoying the scenery without restraint!

The Christmas markets in Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé, Colmar and Eguisheim are served by special shuttles. Don't hesitate to contact the tourist offices for more information.

Join Europa Park from Strasbourg and Sélestat with the dedicated shuttle bus!!

Leave from Sélestat train station and reach the following tourist sites: Cigoland, the Eagle-flight, the Monkey-mountain and thechateau-du-haut-koenigsbourg. with bus line 500.

Route 317 serves the station at Wissembourg, the Cleebourg wine cellar, the Chemin des cimes, the Four-à-chaux, the Ligne Maginot to the Fleckenstein castle.

There is also a free shuttle bus from Mutzig towards the cascade du Niedeck and the Fort de Mutzig

 

Several Alsatian ski resorts are accessible in winter via shuttles.

The winter shuttle provides access to the Champ du Feu from Strasbourg, Sélestat, Obernai, Barr and Schirmeck.

Moovinbus is a shuttle bus that runs from Colmar via Kaysersberg, Lapoutroie and Le Bonhomme to Lac Blanc 900. It runs on some Saturdays. Don't hesitate to make an appointment with the resort.

Drive to Schnepfenried ski resort without a car from Strasbourg, Mulhouse and Colmar (by joining Munster by train).
