The Parc naturel régional des Ballons des Vosges stretches over 2,900 km², à the crossing of four départements (Haut-Rhin, Haute-Saône, Vosges and Territoire de Belfort) and two regions : the Grand Est and the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Created in 1989, it comprises 189 communes and over 250,000 inhabitants.

At the heart of the south of the Vosges massif, this area combines mid-mountain landscapes, deep forests, uplands, towers, streams, lakes and limestone grasslands. This remarkable natural heritage is home to a diverse flora and fauna, with rare or protected species such as the borough lynx, the great tiger, the grey wolf, the beaver and the Tengmalm's owl.
The region's various stakeholders are taking action to preserve nature, and to protect the region's natural heritage;preserve nature, support sustainable tourism, enhance the value of local resources and pass on the mémory of the area.
Marked by a old human occupation, the massif has seen the birth of numerous activities : forestry, mountain farming, mining, textiles, kirsch, winegrowing… all of which are still visible today.
