Located in the heart of old town Colmar, the Bartholdi museum is dedicated to the 19th-century Alsatian artist.
Auguste Bartholdi was a complete artist: sculpture, painting, drawing, photography and even architecture. He was strongly committed to human rights.
In the courtyard of the museum, which was the artist's birthplace, is the monumental bronze group Les grands Soutiens du monde.
The building was awarded the Maisons des Illustres label by the Ministry of Culture and Communication in 2011.
On 3 levels:
- on the ground floor: models of nine of Colmar's public monuments
- on the first floor: family furniture and personal souvenirs
- the second étage is devoted to American monuments, including La Liberté Éclairant le Monde
Auguste Bartholdi donated numerous works to the town of Colmar, some of which can still be seen today: the monument to General Rapp, the Alsatian Cooper and the Schwendi fountain.
Game booklets divided by age are available at the museum reception desk: a fun and educational way to visit the museum with the whole family!
