The Route of the fortified castles of Alsace

A hiking trail

Alsace has a high densityé of châteaux forts on its territory, with around a hundred sites that can be visited.

The foothills of the Vosges have been the site of numerous fortified castles, which have gradually been abandoned. The magnificent ruins, full of mystery, are now open to hikers on the Chemin des Châteaux Forts d'Alsace. Its route stretches for around 450 kilometres from the north to the south of the region, passing more than 80 chateaux from Wissembourg à Thann. The Chemin des Châteaux Forts runs parallel to the Alsace plain, the Vosges mountains and the Route des Vins d'Alsace. Let yourself be guided by the unique signposting put in place by the Club Vosgien, with a multitude of options open to you for a serene discovery of the trésor castral d'Alsace!
