Château du Hohlandsbourg, Wintzenheim

A breathtaking horizon

The Hohlandsbourg castle, a listed historic monument, is 10 kilometres from Colmar. Situated 620 metres above sea level in the hills above Wintzenheim, it offers a unique 360-degree view of the Black Forest, the plaine d’Alsace and the massif des Vosges.

Built on the initiative of the Habsburgs (13th - 17th centuries) to protect Colmar, it is a fine example of military architecture in Alsace. The castle was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War.

The château du Hohlandsbourg today reveals its secrets with many special events throughout the year to understand the history and organisation of the château.
