The Hohlandsbourg castle, a listed historic monument, is 10 kilometres from Colmar. Situated 620 metres above sea level in the hills above Wintzenheim, it offers a unique 360-degree view of the Black Forest, the plaine d’Alsace and the massif des Vosges.
Built on the initiative of the Habsburgs (13th - 17th centuries) to protect Colmar, it is a fine example of military architecture in Alsace. The castle was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War.
