Refuge du Grand-Tétras: Stopover gîte - Group gîte
The "Refuge du Grand Tétras" is a refuge located "in the heart of the largest forest in the Vosges" (Schneeberg-Donon), in the very old tourist resort of Wangenbourg-Engenthal.
On the ground floor there is a communal room with 4 tables and a kitchen area with a double sink/hot water system, a 4-burner gas cooker and oven, a fridge with freezer space, crockery and cutlery for 20 people.
A sanitary area with 4 washbasins, 2 showers and 2 WCs.
Upstairs, a 13-person bunk-bed dormitory in the style of a mountain refuge, made entirely of wood from the local forest.
A full range of information and maps on hiking and tourism in the Vosges, including 3 booklets on discovering the central Vosges between Phalsbourg and Mont Sainte-Odile, written by the owner (Coprur editions).
It welcomes hikers, cyclists and mountain bikers all year round, and even horse riders and donkeys in summer.
A gîte for 2 people is also available on site: Les Bergeronnettes (H67G016780).
GÎTE D'ETAPE
The "Refuge du Grand-Tétras" is first and foremost a stopover gîte "designed by hikers for hikers" and itinerant adventurers.
It stands on the banks of the Mossig stream, directly on the GR 53, 531 and 532 long-distance footpaths (trans-Vosges) and the "Kléber-Stanislas" (GR 534, linking Strasbourg to Nancy).
It welcomes hikers from France and abroad who are venturing across the Vosges; but also hikers who spend several days here and spread out in a star formation
all around.
The same goes for mountain bikers.
Just 300m from the TMV (Traversée du Massif Vosgien à VTT), many of them stop off here, while others stay on to discover the infinite variety of signposted itineraries throughout the "Suisse d'Alsace".
from the Alsace plain (just outside Strasbourg) to the Vosges peaks (Schneeberg massif).
Selected since 1997 by the Fédération Française de Cyclo Tourisme (FFCT), many cyclists spend the night here between two Vosges passes or on discovery tours of Alsace and even France.
With fenced meadows and a stream running through them, horse riders
- as well as groups travelling with donkeys - have also got into the habit of stopping here during the summer season (from 1 May to 15 October).
Even motorcyclists occasionally set down their crutches here.
In winter, when there's snow, all this fine folk are replaced by skiers (Nordic walking) and snowshoe enthusiasts.
GROUP GÎTES
The "Refuge du Grand-Tétras" is also used as a group gîte.
In addition to the hiking groups and clubs (Vosges clubs or private clubs) that meet here, families, friends and colleagues come together for a walk in the countryside or to celebrate an event.
Christmas and New Year are particularly popular because of the friendly atmosphere.
