Albert Schweitzer

Nobel Peace Prize

Albert Schweitzer éwas a French doctor, Protestant theologian and musicologist. Born on 14 January 1875 in the German annexation region of Alsace, he grew up in the small town of Gunsbach, where he was born on 14 January 1875. As a child, he was greatly exposed to music, playing the parish organ from the age of 9. Dr Albert Schweitzer founded the Mission Hospital on the banks of the River Ogoou in Lambaréné (Gabon). In 1924, Lambaréné became a major hospital for the treatment of leprosy and tropical diseases. In 1952, the doctor, philosopher and musician Albert Schweitzer was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He died on 4 September 1965.
